Introducing SmartMove, an efficient and revolutionary automated bus system built using PictoBlox. This system utilizes machine learning technology to accurately detect the number of passengers at the bus stops and deploy optimally sized buses accordingly, reducing the waiting time and resulting in substantial fuel savings.
The accompanying app offers convenience to the user with features such as face recognition-based login, a reward system, and booking of tickets with the selection of boarding and dropping points. The app also includes a QR code scanner that will allow entry to the bus upon authentication.
Our system helps to reduce the wait time at bus stops significantly. It also works to improve fuel economy. Our research revealed that for shorter journeys, the smaller bus is much quicker and more fuel-efficient compared to the larger bus. This will be beneficial not just for commuters but also for the bus owners.
PictoBlox provides a plethora of useful extensions that enabled us to implement this project efficiently. This includes the Display Modules – evive & Arduino extension for controlling the various display modules and the QR Code Scanner block that allows us to detect, identify, and read QR codes. Moreover, they have used the Face Detection extension to be able to detect and recognize human faces with face landmark detections and the IFTT Webhooks extension to be able to send data to cloud servers.
This project is a game-changer for the public transportation system. Every day in Mumbai, 77% of all buses are run off-schedule, creating a significant decrease in daily commuters since 2012. SmartMove attempts to find a solution to this problem.
