Automated Smart Dustbin, addressing the problem of environmental pollution due to improper waste management. The dustbin uses a Lego Mindstorm Ev3 kit, a Google Teachable Machine, an Ultrasonic Sensor, a medium motor, and a large motor to classify metal, plastic, glass, and paper waste. It can also sort recyclable, non-recyclable, biodegradable, and non-biodegradable waste.
The system works as follows- first, the Ultrasonic Sensor detects the waste, then the camera, trained using Machine Learning, recognizes four types of waste.
The Automated Smart Dustbin model helps reduce air pollution and its effect on ecosystems and species. Also minimizes water pollution due to the dumping of unsorted waste into water. It is an easy and effective way of sorting waste in households.
