This troubleshooting guide helps you fix common Quarky Intellio connection issues in PictoBlox. If your Intellio is not connecting, not showing in the device list, stuck on router checking, failing IP detection, or facing Wi-Fi and hotspot issues, use this guide to find the correct solution.
The guide covers setup checks, firmware updates, PictoBlox version checks, camera/audio selection, Wi-Fi router connection, mobile hotspot connection, Intellio hotspot connection, IP address connection, and Windows Firewall issues.
Is your Quarky Intellio not connecting?
If Quarky Intellio is not connecting to PictoBlox, the issue may be related to an incorrect setup, outdated firmware, an older PictoBlox version, the wrong Wi-Fi network, firewall restrictions, or an incorrect connection method. Before trying any advanced troubleshooting, first check the basic setup requirements.
Have you installed PictoBlox correctly?
If PictoBlox is not installed correctly or if you are using an older version, Quarky Intellio may not appear, connect, or work properly. Quarky Intellio requires the correct PictoBlox version and setup to access its blocks, connection options, and firmware tools.
Step 1: Download and install PictoBlox (If it is not already installed on your device).
Step 2: PictoBlox version 9.1.0 or later is required for Quarky Intellio support.
Step 3: Click Download PictoBlox to visit the download page, select your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux), and follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest version.

Have you uploaded the latest firmware?
If Quarky Intellio is not responding correctly, not connecting properly, or showing unexpected behavior, the firmware may be outdated. Firmware is the internal software of the device, and updating it helps Intellio work properly with the latest PictoBlox features.
Using the latest firmware is important for Quarky Intellio to work properly.
Step 1: Connect Quarky Intellio to your computer using any one of the available connection methods.
Step 2: Go to the Quarky Intellio Blocks section and click on the Settings button.

Step 3: Click on Check to view the current firmware version.
Note: Ensure firmware is updated regularly.
Are you using the latest version of PictoBlox?
If you are using an older PictoBlox version, Quarky Intellio blocks, firmware tools, connection methods, or device detection may not work correctly. Updating PictoBlox ensures that you have the latest bug fixes and Intellio support.
Step 1: Go to Settings.
Step 2: Click on Check for Updates.

Step 3: Make sure you are using PictoBlox 9.1.0 or the latest version.

Have you selected the correct Camera and Audio device?
If the camera feed or audio is not working in Quarky Intellio projects, PictoBlox may be using the wrong camera or microphone. You need to select Quarky Intellio as the camera and audio device from the PictoBlox settings.
Step 1: Go to Settings and open Audio & Video Settings.
Step 2: Select Camera → Quarky Intellio.
Step 3: Select Audio Microphone → Quarky Intellio Audio.

Is the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Option Missing on Computer?
Some computers do not have built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity. If an Ethernet connection is also unavailable, the computer may not be able to connect to Quarky Intellio through a router, mobile hotspot, Intellio hotspot, or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
To resolve this issue, use a compatible external adapter that provides both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Choosing a Suitable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Adapter
Select an adapter according to your computer and connection requirements. Ensure that it supports:
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for Quarky Intellio network connections
- Bluetooth for Bluetooth-based communication
Note: When using a dual-band Wi-Fi adapter, ensure that the router or mobile hotspot is operating on the 2.4 GHz band for the Quarky Intellio connection.

How to Enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Using a USB Wi-Fi Adapter
Follow these steps:
Step 1: Select a compatible adapter that supports both 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Connect the adapter to an available USB port on the computer.

Step 2: Wait for Windows to detect the adapter and install the required drivers automatically.
Step 3: Restart the computer if required. Follow Windows icon → Power → Restart.

Step 4: Confirm that the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options are now available.

Step 5: After enabling Wi-Fi, proceed with the appropriate Quarky Intellio Wi-Fi Connection Guide based on your available network configuration (Router, Mobile Hotspot, or Intellio Hotspot).
After the adapter is installed successfully, the computer can use the available Quarky Intellio connection methods.
Via Wi-Fi Router Connection Method Troubleshooting
Use this section if you are connecting Quarky Intellio through a Wi-Fi router. This method requires a compatible Wi-Fi network, correct Wi-Fi details, Bluetooth support during discovery, and proper firewall permission on Windows.
Are you using the correct Wi-Fi network?
If Quarky Intellio is not connecting through a Wi-Fi router, the most common reason is that the router is using a 5 GHz network. Quarky Intellio supports only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so it will not connect properly to 5 GHz networks.
Step 1: Quarky Intellio supports only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
Step 2: Connect your computer or laptop to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Step 3: Check with the following steps


Note: Quarky Intellio will not work on 5 GHz networks.
Have you entered the correct Wi-Fi details?
If Quarky Intellio shows a connection failure, the Wi-Fi name or password may be incorrect. Even a small spelling mistake, extra space, or wrong letter case can stop Intellio from joining the network.
Step 1: Check that the Wi-Fi name is correct.
Step 2: Check that the password is correct.
Step 3: Make sure your device and Quarky Intellio are connected to the same network.

Is your device not showing in the “Looking for devices” screen?
If Quarky Intellio is not visible in the “Looking for devices” screen, PictoBlox may not be detecting the device through Bluetooth discovery. This can happen if Bluetooth is turned off, the device is not reset, or the device list has not refreshed properly.

Step 1: Press the Reset button on Intellio and wait until the blue LED turns ON.
Step 2: Click on Refresh.

Step 3: You can find your Quarky Intellio Name printed on the right side of the device, as shown below.

Step 4: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device and check the device list again.

Are you getting the “Device Connection failed” Screen?
The “Device Connection Failed” screen usually appears when Quarky Intellio cannot connect to the selected Wi-Fi network. This may happen because of incorrect Wi-Fi details, 5 GHz Wi-Fi, weak network signal, or incomplete device reset.

Step 1: Check whether the Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz.


Step 2: Re-enter the Wi-Fi name and password carefully.
Step 3: Press the Reset button on Intellio and wait until the blue LED turns ON.
Step 4: Click Refresh again and try reconnecting.

Is the connection stuck on “Checking your router”?
If PictoBlox is stuck on the “Checking your router” screen, Quarky Intellio may be unable to verify the Wi-Fi connection. This can happen if the device is connected to the wrong network, the router is not responding, or the connection process is interrupted.

Step 1: Verify Wi-Fi Connection. Make sure your device is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Step 2: Click on the Refresh or Reconnect button to retry the connection.

Step 3: If the issue is still present, then press the Reset button on Intellio and wait until the blue LED turns ON.
Step 4: Click on Reconnect.

Still not working after Reset and Refresh?
Is the IP checking failing on Windows systems?
PictoBlox may fail to detect or connect to the device IP on Windows because the Windows Firewall blocks UDP communication. UDP is used for device discovery and network communication, so if it is blocked, PictoBlox may not be able to find or connect to the device properly.
To fix this issue, allow PictoBlox through the Windows Firewall, especially for the blocked TCP or UDP rules.
Follow these steps:
Step 1: Press Win + R, type wf.msc, and press Enter or click on OK.

Step 2: Click on Inbound Rules.

Step 3: Find PictoBlox in the list.

Step 4: If a red cross icon is visible → connection is blocked. You may see both TCP and UDP rules.
Step 5: Right-click → Properties and select Allow the connection and click Apply → OK.

Step 6: The issue has been resolved.

If PictoBlox is not listed:
Step 1: Click New Rule (right panel).

Step 2: Select Program → Next → Browse.


Step 3: Select PictoBlox.exe

Step 4: Allow TCP and UDP and select Allow the connection, and click Next.

Step 6: Apply to Domain / Private / Public and click on Next.

Step 7: Add the Pictoblox and click on Finish.

7. Is the connection stuck?
If the connection process stops in between, the connection may have been interrupted due to network delay, device reset issue, or temporary communication failure between PictoBlox and Quarky Intellio.

Device as a Mobile Hotspot Connection Method Troubleshooting
Use this section if your computer or mobile device is creating a hotspot and Quarky Intellio is connecting to that hotspot. This method requires the hotspot to stay active and run on a 2.4 GHz band.
Have you set the hotspot to 2.4 GHz?
If Quarky Intellio is not connecting to your mobile hotspot, the hotspot may be running on a 5 GHz band. Quarky Intellio supports only 2.4 GHz networks, so the hotspot must be set to 2.4 GHz.
Step 1: Turn on Mobile Hotspot on your device.
Step 2: Set the hotspot network band to 2.4 GHz.
Note: macOS users can set up Internet Sharing manually for 2.4 GHz.

Is your device not showing in the “Looking for devices” screen?
If Quarky Intellio does not appear in the device list while using the mobile hotspot method, the device discovery step may not be completed. Bluetooth should be enabled, and the device may need to be reset before scanning again.
If your device is not visible, try the following steps.

Step 1: Press the Reset button on Intellio and wait until the blue LED turns ON.
Step 2: Click on Refresh.

Step 3: You can find your Quarky Intellio Name printed on the right side of the device, as shown below.

Step 4: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device and check the device list again.

Is your hotspot turned ON?
If the mobile hotspot is turned off during the connection process, Quarky Intellio will not be able to connect. The hotspot must remain active while Intellio is connecting and while the project is running.
Step 1: Make sure your device has an active internet connection and the Mobile Hotspot is turned ON.
Step 2: Keep the hotspot active while connecting to Intellio.

Are you getting the “Device Connection failed” Screen?
The “Device Connection Failed” screen may appear if the hotspot name, hotspot password, or hotspot band is incorrect. Quarky Intellio must connect to the correct 2.4 GHz hotspot using the exact hotspot details.

If Intellio is not connecting, verify the details carefully.
Step 1: Check that the hotspot name and password match those of the created device’s mobile hotspot.
Step 2: Ensure the hotspot is running on 2.4 GHz.

Step 3: Press the Reset button on Intellio and wait until the blue LED turns ON.
Step 4: Click Refresh again and try reconnecting.

Is the connection stuck on “Checking your router”?
If the connection gets stuck on “Checking your router” while using a mobile hotspot, PictoBlox may be unable to verify the hotspot network. This can happen if the hotspot is inactive, set to the wrong band, or temporarily disconnected.

Step 1: Make sure your Mobile Hotspot is ON and ensure the hotspot is set to 2.4 GHz band only.

Step 2: Click on the Refresh button to retry the connection.

If the issue is still present:
Step 3: Press the Reset button on Intellio and wait until the blue LED turns ON.
Step 4: Click on Reconnect.

Is the IP checking failing on Windows systems?
PictoBlox may fail to detect or connect to the device IP on Windows because the Windows Firewall blocks UDP communication. UDP is used for device discovery and network communication, so if it is blocked, PictoBlox may not be able to find or connect to the device properly.
To fix this issue, allow PictoBlox through the Windows Firewall, especially for the blocked TCP or UDP rules.

Is the connection getting stuck?
If the mobile hotspot connection process stops in between, the hotspot may have disconnected, the device may not have reset correctly, or PictoBlox may have lost communication with Intellio.

Note: The Internet is available in this method only if your hotspot device has an active internet connection.
Intellio as a Hotspot Connection Method Troubleshooting
Use this section if Quarky Intellio creates its own hotspot and your computer connects to that Intellio hotspot. This method is useful when you do not want to use an external Wi-Fi router or mobile hotspot.
Have you created the Intellio hotspot correctly?
If Intellio as a hotspot is not working, the hotspot may not have been created correctly in PictoBlox, or your computer may not be connected to the hotspot created by Intellio.
Step 1: Generate or create the hotspot name and password in PictoBlox.
Step 2: Open the Wi-Fi settings on your device.
Step 3: Connect your device to the hotspot created by Intellio.

Is the hotspot not visible in the Wi-Fi list?
If the Intellio hotspot is not visible in your Wi-Fi list, it may take a few seconds to appear, or your computer may not have refreshed the available networks. Sometimes Wi-Fi scanning delays can prevent the hotspot from appearing immediately.
Step 1: Open the Wi-Fi list on your device.
Step 2: Refresh or rescan the Wi-Fi networks.
Step 3: Wait for a few seconds. Check again for the Intellio hotspot.

Is your device not showing in the “Looking for devices” screen?
If the device is not showing while using Intellio as a hotspot, the device may need to be reset, or Bluetooth may not be enabled. PictoBlox uses Bluetooth during device discovery, so Bluetooth must be turned on.

Step 1: Press the Reset button on Intellio and wait until the blue LED turns ON.
Step 2: Click on Refresh.

Step 3: You can find your Quarky Intellio Name printed on the right side of the device, as shown below.

Step 4: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device and check the device list again.

Are you getting the “Device Connection failed” Screen?
The “Device Connection Failed” screen in the Intellio hotspot method may appear if your device is connected to the wrong network, the Intellio hotspot password is incorrect, or Bluetooth is disabled during discovery.

This may happen due to a wrong hotspot password or a wrong network.
Step 1: Check the hotspot Name and password carefully. Connect your device to the hotspot created by Intellio.

Step 2: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device.

Step 3: Retry the connection by pressing the Reconnect button to reconnect and the Refresh button to try again.

Step 4: Press the Reset button on Intellio and wait until the blue LED turns ON.
Step 5: Click on Refresh.

Step 6: You can find your Quarky Intellio Name printed on the right side of the device, as shown below.

Step 7: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device and check the device list again.

Still not working after Reset and Refresh?
Is the IP checking failing on older Windows systems?

Is the connection stuck?
If the Intellio hotspot connection gets stuck, the connection process may have stopped due to a temporary network issue, device reset issue, or incorrect hotspot connection.

Using IP Address of Intellio Connection Method Troubleshooting
Use this section if you are connecting Quarky Intellio using its IP address. This method works only if Quarky Intellio was previously connected using Wi-Fi Router, Device as Mobile Hotspot, or Intellio as Hotspot method.
Is the IP address not fetching or showing an error after entering the correct IP address?
If the IP address is not fetching or shows an error, Quarky Intellio may not be connected to the expected network. The IP address method works only if Intellio was previously connected through another connection method.

Step 1: Make sure you have previously connected Quarky Intellio using any one of the other three connection methods (Via Wi-Fi Router, Device as a Mobile Hotspot, or Intellio as a Hotspot).
Step 2: Ensure your device is connected to the same network used in the previous connection.

Note: This method works only if Quarky Intellio was connected earlier using one of the other connection methods.
How to reconnect using device buttons?
If Quarky Intellio was previously connected to a network, you can reconnect it using the physical buttons on the device. This helps Intellio reconnect to the last saved network without entering details again.
Step 1: If used a Via Wi-Fi Router Connection method / Device as a Mobile Hotspot Connection method previously, press the L button (long press).
Step 2: If you were using Intellio as a Hotspot Connection method, press the R button (long press).

Step 3: Wait for Intellio to reconnect. Once the yellow LED becomes steady (stops blinking), it indicates that the device has successfully connected to the previously connected network.
Are you getting the “Device Connection failed” Screen?
If you see the “Device Connection Failed” message while using the IP address method, Intellio may not be connected to the correct previously used network. The fix depends on the connection method used earlier.

For Via Wi-Fi Router Connection method / Device as a Mobile Hotspot Connection method
Step 1: Press and hold the ‘L’ button on Quarky Intellio until the LED starts blinking yellow.

Step 2: Make sure your device is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz only).


Step 3: Click the Refresh button to reconnect.

For Intellio as a Hotspot Connection method
Step 1: Press and hold the ‘R’ button on Quarky Intellio until the LED starts blinking yellow.

Step 2: Connect your device to the Intellio hotspot.

Step 3: Click the Refresh button again to connect.

Is the connection getting stuck?
If the IP address connection stops in between, the device may not be on the same network, or the previously saved network connection may not be active. Resetting and reconnecting usually fixes this issue.
