A universal ship for special forces and a memorial act for the Day of War Veterans

A versatile ship for special forces

The Polish Navy is interested in a small universal ship for its special forces. The vehicle must be able to transport special forces operators at high speed over the surface, moving in the target area hidden under the surface.

A vessel for special Polish units

The purchase is handled by the Polish Arms Inspectorate, which plans to conduct a dialogue with the professional public on the technical details of the acquired ship. The technical dialogue will take place from December 2013 to February 2014.

The MBM universal battleship (Multi-purpose Combat Vehicle) is designed for special forces operations. The ship must carry six divers with full equipment and armament and be able to dive to a depth of 35 meters.

The maximum length of the ship is 11 meters (due to transportation in containers) with a maximum displacement of 4,500 kg. The required speed on the surface is 30 knots (56 km/h), below the surface 5 knots (9 km/h). The minimum range on the surface is 150 nautical miles (278 km), and 20 nautical miles (37 km) below the surface. Of course, the ship's materials are highly resistant to salt water. It also requires enough interior space to carry two underwater scooters.

It's not just great mobility that's important. The vessel must be transported in a standard shipping container by land, sea or air. For deployment in other parts of the world, it is required to use C-130 Hercules aircraft.

Currently, the Navy plans to purchase only one ship. The user will most likely be the JWF Special Forces (Formoza). The unit is currently completing its mission in Afghanistan, but upon its return, it should focus on its core discipline, amphibious special operations.
